Sally Silver made her operatic debut as Lauretta Gianni Schicchi at The Natal Playhouse, South Africa. She was awarded the prestigious FNB Vita award for her performances as Violetta La Traviata followed by the Opera South Africa prize. Other roles in South Africa included Susanna Le nozze di Figaro, Nannetta Falstaff, Musetta La Bohème, Oscar Un ballo in maschera, Frasquita Carmen, Clorinda Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda, Valencienne The Merry Widow and Nedda I Pagliacci at the South African State Theatre in Pretoria, Artscape in Cape Town, The Playhouse in Durban, the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown and at the Spier Arts Festival in Stellenbosch. In concert she appeared with South Africa’s major orchestras in the Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Johannesburg and Pretoria as well as appearing as a guest in Namibia, Botswana and Mozambique.


Following her move to London, Sally Silver’s opera engagements in Europe have included Queen Marguerite Les Huguenots at Opéra de Metz, Olympia, Antonia and Giulietta Les Contes d’Hoffmann at Opéra de Metz and Opéra de Rennes, Stonatrilla L’Opera Seria (Gassmann) at the Nationale Reisopera in The Netherlands as well as the Duchess Powder her Face (Thomas Adès) in Metz, Nantes, Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Berlin. She sang Ännchen Der Freischütz and Mila in the World Premiere of The Palace in the Sky (Jonathan Dove) for English National Opera. Other roles in the UK include Donna Elvira Don Giovanni, Fiordiligi Così fan tutte, Countess Le Nozze di Figaro, Mimì La Bohème, Micaëla Carmen, Mother Amahl and the Night Visitors and Sashka The Electrification of the Soviet Union (Nigel Osborne).


Her concert repertoire spans works from Handel to the 21st century including Strauss Vier Letzte Lieder, Berg Sieben frühe Lieder, Berlioz Les Nuits d’été, Mahler Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen and Fourth Symphony, Beethoven Missa Solemnis, Fanshawe African Sanctus, Haydn Creation, Handel Messiah and Ode to St. Cecilia, Brahms, Fauré, Lloyd Webber, Dvorak, Verdi and Mozart Requiems, Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle, Saint-Saëns Oratorio de Noël and Mozart Exsultate Jubilate. She has also appeared with the Dante Quartet , Edinburgh String Quartet and the Medici String Quartet.


Recent concert engagements have included Naresh Sohal’s Songs of Five Rivers with the BBC Symphony Orchestra (broadcast live on BBC Radio 3) and his Three Songs from Gitanjali commissioned for her by the Spitalfields Festival. She sang Mendelssohn’s Symphony No 2 with the London Symphony Orchestra and KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Barbican, Mozart Mass in C Minor and Beethoven 9th Symphony with Orchestre de Pau, Pays de Béarn, Strauss Vier Letzte Lieder and John Simon Portrait of Emily with the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, and a series of concerts of highlights from La Traviata with the orchestra of Scottish Opera.

Recent opera engagements include Lucia in the new production of Lucia di Lammermoor for Scottish Opera, Olympia, Antonia and Giulietta in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Elisabetta Maria Stuarda for Chelsea Opera Group,Violetta La traviata for the Nationale Reisopera and Gilda Rigoletto for the Opéra de Metz. Future engagements include Elvira I Puritani for Scottish Opera, the role of Ariadne in The Bride of Dionysus by Sir Donald Tovey and the title role of "Lurline" by Wallace in a recording conducted by Richard Bonynge.
